Voices United for Separation of Church and State Benefit Concert at Waltz-Astoria September 28

Check this out: Voices United Concerts

It’s the promo page for our show at Waltz-Astoria.

I’m proud to be joined by Franklin Southworth, Michael David Bryson, Matt Frye, and The Locksmiths for an evening of music, laughs, solidarity, and kicking ass to support a good cause.

So get your $hit together and get your a$$ down to Waltz on September 28 at 7:30PM.  Suggested donation is $20 to benefit Americans United for Separation of Church and State.  Plus, Waltz has a $10 food drink minimum so’s they can stay in business (so have a cheesecake and a capuccino and get fat and wired and sing along)…

Waltz-Astoria is at 23-14 Ditmars Ave in Astoria, Queens.  You can take the N or Q to Ditmars and then walk.  You could probably use the exercise, especially if you plan on gorging yourself on red velvet cake.

NYC Singer Songwriter Showcase June 13

I’m proud to be a part of the Tower of Song’s NYC Singer Songwriter Showcase at R Bar on June 13.  My set is at 8:45.  It’ll be my first show since my son was born and it’s also the day after my birthday.  So come on down and help me celebrate my birthday with a set of loud, funny, angry, sad, and happy songs…

R Bar is at 218 Bowery in NYC. $10 Cover

Sun rising in a foggy windowpane…

After promising myself I’d never enter another one of those song contests, I entered another one of those song contests.  My song “Window” was a finalist in the Folk Category of the Song of the Year Contest for March 2012.  You can go hear it here:  Window by John Henry Olthoff

Here are the winners…Of course, I think that my songs are better than all of them but there’s no accounting for taste…not even mine…

Sun rising in a foggy windowpane

I try to move my knees through the pain

Coffee’s brewing in the pot

Better go and drink it while it’s still hot

It’s gonna be one of those days

Broken records, broken hearts, and broken minds

Someday I’m gonna leave this all behind

But there’s a broken axle on the truck

Well, ain’t that just my good luck

Who wouldn’t kill for this view?

Right now I might kill just to have something to do…

Thought I’d never need more than a dirt road

Right now I’m about ready to explode

Bills are piling up on the floor

Soon I ain’t gonna live here anymore

They’re gonna beat me up, they’re gonna tear it down

They’re gonna lay waste to it all for miles around

They’re gonna drill it up and move on to another town…

They’re gonna board it up, they’re gonna close it down

They’re gonna open up the dam and flood us out

Then they’ll put in a golf course so they can all go putt around…
